This grey faux grasscloth wallpaper provides a beautiful middle ground between soft neutral and architectural grey. Pair it with natural timber, black accents, stone, linen or warm white finishes for an interior that feels grounded and considered.

 The solid vinyl construction gives the wallpaper excellent durability, while the pre-pasted backing makes installation straightforward. The washable and scrubbable surface is practical for everyday living and high-use areas.

Produced by Norwall, established in 1975 and distributed worldwide by Patton Wallcoverings, this design combines the character of a woven natural material with the durability and practicality of a modern vinyl wallcovering. The embossed solid-vinyl surface is washable and scrubbable, while the pre-pasted backing makes installation straightforward when properly activated and booked.

What makes this faux grasscloth design convincing is its irregularity. The woven lines aren’t perfectly uniform, and the small knotted details stop the surface from feeling like a simple printed stripe. The embossing adds just enough relief to create shadows across the wall, giving the impression of real woven material.

The deeper grey makes the woven structure particularly apparent. The South African light catches the embossed fibres differently across the wall, creating subtle horizontal movement without the wallpaper becoming strongly patterned.

Pre-pasted wallpapers can behave differently depending on the temperature and humidity of the room. If the adhesive feels dry after activation, lightly misting the backing and allowing it to relax before hanging can help. An experienced installer may also prefer to apply a thin coat of paste to the wall for easier positioning.

Installation

Pre-pasted application.

Activate the adhesive according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Once sufficiently moistened, book each strip by folding the pasted sides together and allow it to rest for the recommended soaking time before hanging.

For an easier installation, particularly in warm or dry conditions, lightly misting the backing with water can help ensure the pre-pasted adhesive is fully activated. An experienced installer may also find that applying a thin, even coat of wallpaper paste to the wall helps with positioning and handling.

Smooth each strip carefully into place, taking particular care with the alignment and tonal variation between panels.

Grasscloth-inspired wallpapers are not intended to create a seamless pattern across adjoining panels. Strips may be reversed during installation to create a more natural, balanced woven appearance.

Grasscloth: What to Expect

These designs deliberately recreate the irregular character of natural grasscloth. The woven effect is designed to be appreciated as a series of individual panels rather than as a continuous pattern.

Panel Variation
Subtle differences in colour and tone may occur between strips. These variations are part of the natural appearance the design is intended to replicate.

Visible Seams
Unlike conventional patterned wallpaper, the joins between panels may remain visible. This is characteristic of grasscloth and should be considered part of the finished look.

Installation Precision
Careful hanging is important. Your installer should position each panel thoughtfully, balancing tonal variations so that the finished wall feels deliberate and natural.

Reversing Panels
Depending on the design, reversing alternate strips can help create a more authentic woven appearance. Your installer can advise on the best approach for the particular colourway.

Walls should be smooth, clean, dry and properly primed.

Any imperfections will show through – preparation matters.

Bathroom Suitability

Suitable for bathrooms with good ventilation.

The washable and scrubbable vinyl surface makes these wallpapers practical for humid environments, but avoid direct and repeated water contact.

For bathrooms, we recommend particular care around sinks, baths and showers (avoid direct water contact) and ensuring adequate ventilation.
